Barbara Joyce (Long) Banister

Barbara Joyce (Long) Banister, age 89, of Rowlesburg, WV, passed away, June 6, 2023. She was born in Tulsa, OK, November 3, 1933, a daughter of the late Jay van Long and Edith Mae (Howard) Long Leonard.  Her husband, John Richard Banister, preceded her in death in October of 2015.

Barbara was the mayor of Rowlesburg for 13 years, she was the owner and operator of The Whistlestop Restaurant, the Cheat River Tavern, and Rowlesburg Printing.

Surviving are: one son, John Banister, of Maple Valley, WA; one daughter, Raimona Rowe, of NY; three sisters, Judith Ogden, of Charleston, SC, Laquita Ann Leonard Boucheron, of NY, and Patricia Louise Leonard Rivera, of FL; and four grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by: one son, David; one daughter Rebecca; and two brothers.

At her request cremation will take place, there will be no services at this time.
