Bernice Evangeline DiDio, 101, of Kingwood, WV, Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.
Bernice was born on October 26, 1921, in Silver Lake, WV and grew up in the Kingwood area. She was the daughter of the late James Harvey and Ora Daisy (Breedlove) Christman.
Bernice was a graduate of the Aurora High School. Bernice retired in 1984 after working thirty-six years for Monongalia Power Company. Through the years, Bernice volunteered at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood High School Alumni Banquets, blood drives, served Buckwheat cakes during the Buckwheat Festival, and worked the polls during elections. Bernice loved to play golf and attend WVU football games.
Bernice was a long-term member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingwood and served as treasurer and deacon. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in the Women’s Association, serving as an officer and worked over the years on many Christmas Bazaars, spring yard sales, Vacation Bible schools, candy-making days and making crafts. She was known for her old-fashioned peanut butter fudge, “Fake Apple Pie,” and her warm smile and gentle chuckle.
She is survived by her son, Anthony L. “Larry” DiDio of Parkville, MD; her sister, Barbara Tennyson of Chesapeake, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Opal Dean Jeffreys, Betty Rudasille, Leona Yeager, Vivian Ghost, and Louis and Clifton Christman.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Bernice with her family during visitation at Kingwood Funeral Home, located at 295 S. Price Street on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 4:00pm-7:00pm. and on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 10 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am with Rev. David Spence officiating. Interment will follow the service at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.
