Christiana Reed Dill Mollin, A very dear person and friend of St. John’s died suddenly in her home on September 20, 2023. Christiana was a Registrar in the sixties and Secretary to Dean Robert Goldman, edited and typed/published the Mollin and Williamson Greek Manuals, graduated from the Graduate Institute in her late sixties, and was one of the founders of the Caritas Society. Her career included executive assistant to several judges, legal work, and the White House, edited speeches for President Reagan and the legendary Dick Dorman at OMB.
Christiana enjoyed and championed the musicals of Stephen Sondheim and may have known more about American film, especially Westerns and Screwball Comedies than anyone alive. She knew Shakespeare’s History Plays and Tragedies Cold, and her insights into productions and film versions were a gift. Her love of film stemmed from her early years working in Kingwood Theatre and she had a vivid knowledge of favorite stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Irene Dunn, Gene Tierney, John Wayne, Laurence Oliver, Montgomery Clift, and William Holden. Christiana maintained her fierce love for her native state of West Virginia and the hometown of her pioneer ancestors in Reedsville, Preston County. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Kingwood, West Virginia.
Christiana known to her Preston County family as “Christie” is the daughter of deceased parents Dorothy Vivian Miller Watkins and Charles H. Dill; a stepsister Virginia (Giggie) Dill Springer; her husband Alfred Mollin; two stepfathers, 28 year veteran Lcdr. Ricardo J. Sperandio, USN; 22 year veteran Major Ralph R. Watkins, USAF; and a stepmother Mirjana Grba Dill. Christie’s deceased paternal grandmother was a descendant of James Reed who was the founder of Reedsville and Christie is the last member of her Dill family. Christie graduated from Kingwood High School in 1959, West Virginia University and St. John’s. She previously had taught at Fellowsville High School in Preston County and West Virginia University before moving to Annapolis, MD in 1967. She had cared from cared for her husband, St. John’s Tutor Alfred Mollin who had a stroke in 2003 after retiring from Department of Justice in 2001 as a law attorney until his death, and her beloved dogs including her Sheltie Toby.
She is survived by her dearest and close friend of 20 years, St. John’s Tutor David Townsend, Annapolis, MD; her beloved first cousin Pamela (Pammy) Miller, Kingwood, WV; Pamela’s brother; Bill (Billy) Miller, Shinnston, WV; cousin Peggy Durr, Chicago, IL; close Kingwood High School best friend Rosemary Bernatowicz, Kingwood, WV and her St. John’s colleagues. Christie requested cremation and arrangements were made to bring her back with her pioneer family in the Reedsville Cemetery in Preston County.
