Clyde William Gibson

Clyde William Gibson, 81, of Kingwood, WV passed away peacefully at his daughter’s house on February 14, 2023. Clyde died on Valentine’s Day as he was full of love and had such a big heart. He loved all those around him. 

Clyde was born March 21, 1941 of the late Oleda Strahin and Roy Gibson, Sr., in Cascade, WV.

He was a hard worker his whole life and worked at Sterling Farms and then at Chem Metals until the 1985 flood.  He then worked many years for Preston County Schools until his retirement. Clyde then continued to do yard work and cut grass for many all over Kingwood.  He LOVED the outdoors!

Clyde was preceded in death by his loving mother Oleda Mae Blosser Strahin, his step-father Paul Strahin, his father Roy Gibson, Sr. and two half-brothers: Harold and Willard Gibson. Clyde is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Martha Clara Louise (Fletcher) Gibson; his loving children: William (Bill) and Lisa Gibson of Angola, IN, Larry Gibson of Kingwood, WV, Cheryl and Billy Ringer of Winchester, VA and Michele and Chuck Barnett of Albright, WV; his brother Edward (Gib) and Rosie of Masontown, WV; his sister Sue Strahin and Betty Read of Masontown, WV and his half-brother Roy Jr. and Sandi Gibson of Masontown, WV. 

His heart was full of love for his grandchildren: Crystal and Chadd VanDevender of Grafton, WV, Whitney Barnett of Albright, WV, Mariah Bright of Independence, WV, Tiffany and Paul Rowan of Newburg, WV, Emily and Benjamin Stickman of Linden, VA, Aaron Ringer of Winchester, VA, Jarrett Gibson of Angola, IN, Jacob Gibson of Angola, IN, and Trip Gibson of Kingwood, WV.

Clyde had so much joy from his great-grandkids CJ, Adrianna, Haven and Elijah VanDevener, Brooklyn and Thalia Bright, Kinslee, Kaleighana, Kilah and Kamrey Rowan.

Clyde had a love for so many friends and family. His smile was contagious. He loved to be a jokester and put a smile on everyone around him. To the end he was a gambling man. Clyde would say, "Don't worry, be Happy!"

Friends will be received on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 South Price Street, Kingwood from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A Vigil Service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 am with Father Dominic Athishu as celebrant. Private interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Preston County Humane Society, PO Box 395, Kingwood, WV 26537.
