Drexal LeRoy Howell

Drexal LeRoy Howell, 90, of Morgantown, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Drexal was born in Kingwood, WV, on March 7, 1935, a son of the late Harry Edwin Howell and Wilma Rebecca (Harned) Howell.

Drexal proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for many years. He was a hardworking man who spent many years as a truck driver, hauling everything from coal to heavy equipment. He was also a true outdoorsman who took pride in the things he cared for, especially keeping his lawn beautiful.  Drexal had a special love for cars, particularly antique cars, and he enjoyed buying, working on, and even trading vehicles. He was always proud to take his cars to shows, where he earned many trophies over the years. More than anything, though, Drexal was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who deeply loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them.

Drexal is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Diane Mae (Balsinger) Howell; six children, Shelly Patton, Mike (Ruth) Howell, Tammi Harper, Mitchell (Lisa) Howell, Jason Howell, and Rebecca (Gregg) Tenney; nine grandchildren, Elijah, Sammy, Helen Ann, Bobby, Dylan, Cassie, Emma, Jaden, and Maddox; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Retty) Howell; and Bert, his lapdog and faithful companion through it all.

In addition to his parents, Drexal was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Howell; and one granddaughter, Alona Patton.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral hour at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Anderson. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
