Earl Johnson Snyder Jr., 80, of Kingwood, passed away following a brief illness, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV. He was born in Valley Bend, WV, on July 20, 1944, son of the late Earl Johnson Snyder Sr. and Amy Louise Snyder.
Earl was a 1962 graduate of Kingwood High School and was a sergeant in the US Army. He was a catcher for the WVU baseball team and also played for the football team. Earl graduated from WVU with a Bachelors in Curriculum, Principals Certificate, and a Master’s degree in Secondary Principalship. He was an official for the 2017 Big 12 Football Championship and was an official at many Big 12 games. He loved everything sports related, refereeing, and coaching youth sports.
Earl was a teacher and an administrator in Preston County Schools for 45 years, mainly at Preston High School. He was a member of the Lions Club and Wesley United Methodist Church. Along with his wife, Sue, they housed many foreign exchange students over the years.
Earl is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Janet Sue (Peale) Snyder; niece, Susan Loudin, of Staunton, VA; nephew, David Loudin, of Fredericksburg, VA; great nieces and nephews, Colin Clark (CJ), Conor Clark, Amy Hughes, Beth Ogbogu, Scott Loudin; Godchildren, Rachel (Aaron) Miller, of Aurora, Brent (Kelsie) McCrum, of Kingwood, Callie Miller, Cora Miller, Zane Miller, Maisie McCrum, Ada McCrum; many cousins and their families; and his cat, Sherman.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Lenore Loudin.
Family and friends will be received at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV, 26537, on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour, with Reverend Jonathan Nettles officiating. Full military rites will be accorded at the funeral home at 11am Saturday by the Preston County Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
