Edmund Anthony Hodgkins

Edmund Anthony Hodgkins, 88, of Tunnelton, WV, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2023, in Morgantown. He was born July 17, 1935, in Northampton Massachusetts, a son of the late Frederick Daniel and Anna Maria (Polito) Hodgkins. His wife Christene Carol (Childers) Hodgkins preceded him in death July 11, 2017. They were united in marriage November 17, 1962, having been married 55 years.

Mr. Hodgkins was a graduate of Northampton High School, he received a BS from the University of Massachusetts, a MS from the University of California at Berkeley, and completed his doctoral work at the Catholic University of America. He was retired having worked for more than 30 years as a civil engineer for the Federal Highway Administration. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, a member of the Tunnelton Lions Club, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He served on the Preston County Water Board. He was an avid reader with a love of poetry and enjoyed bowling.

Surviving are: four children, Ann-Marie Hodgkins Johnson and husband Neil, of Vienna, VA, Jack Hodgkins and wife Cynthia (Weaver), of Tunnelton, Mark Hodgkins and Kim McCloud, of Tunnelton, and Matt Hodgkins, of Tunnelton; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; three siblings, Buddy Hodgkins and wife Joan, of Granby, MA, Irene Rossi and Phil Sullivan, of Sherborn, MA, Anna Slattery, of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers and sisters in law, Bill Childers and wife Georgia, of Tunnelton, Emery Childers, of Tunnelton, and George Childers, of Warrenton, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by: one grandson, David Hodgkins; and two brothers. Bob Hodgkins, and Bill Hodgkins; brothers and sisters in law, Ted Slattery, Gayle Childers, Nancy Johnson and husband Bob, and Bobby Childers and wife Sandy.

Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV, on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 4-7 pm. A prayer vigil will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 11 am, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 322 E. Main Street, Kingwood, WV. Father Dominic Athishu as celebrant. Interment at the Childers Memorial Cemetery, Tunnelton.
