Gayle Ruth (Sherwood) Childers

Gayle Ruth (Sherwood) Childers, age 73, of Tunnelton, WV, passed away peacefully, Friday, December 23, 2022, with her loving husband, Emery E. Childers, by her side.  They were united in marriage, September 23, 1983. She was born July 14, 1949, in Washington DC, a daughter of the late Quentin and Ruth Sherwood.

Gayle was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, going to the Kingwood and Tunnelton Senior Centers, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the Camp Chapel United Methodist Church. Gayle will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to her husband she is survived by: four children, Alvin Lewis and wife Sherri, Justin Childers and wife Amber, all of Terra Alta, WV, Stephanie Hauser and husband Joe, of Aurora, WV, and Elizabeth Gulledge and husband John of Terra Alta, WV; 14 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; one brother, Gary Sherwood and wife Mitzi, of Arlington, VA; two brothers in law, Bill Childers and wife Georgia, of Tunnelton, WV, and George Childers, of Manassas, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: one son Jonathan Childers; and one infant daughter; and her mother and father in law, John and Ocie Childers.

Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV, on Wednesday, December 28th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the funeral home. Pastor Edward Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Childers Cemetery.
