Hunter Hoover Obituary

Hunter Trey Hoover, 17, of Bruceton Mills, WV, tragically passed away from a gunshot accident on March 29, 2026, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born on July 26, 2008, in Morgantown, son of Brian Hoover (Nikki), of Bruceton Mills, and Crystal Martin Showalter (Ronald), of Markleysburg, PA.

Hunter loved cars and trucks, telling what kind as they passed. He created garages full of hundreds of fancy vehicles on PlayStation. He just about lived on Takis, General Tso chicken, McDonalds’ Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwiches, and Mountain Dew. He loved clothes and shoes, and was often found in front of the bathroom mirror snapping Facebook photos of himself in different outfits. But his real comfort in life was his love of music of all kinds, often reading the lyrics to his grandmother, and adding “I can relate to that!”

Hunter was looking forward to graduating in May from Preston High School and getting a job so he could earn enough money to buy himself his first car. Hunter was known as a sincere, respectful, and kind-hearted young man by his friends, teachers, and classmates. One of his classmates commented, “he made us laugh, even on the hardest days.” Hunter was loved by so many and will be forever missed.

In addition to his parents, Hunter is survived by his grandparents, Floyd and Loretta Hoover, of Friendsville, Jeff and Sherry Showalter, of Addison, PA; his aunt, Sherry White (Aaron); cousins, Ellie and Ian White, of Friendsville, MD; his uncle, Shawn Showalter (Kiersten); cousins, Kahlan, Alaina, and Sylas Showalter. He is also survived by a special great grandmother, Christine Matthews, who he was very fond of.
