Irene Dorothy (Stevens) Passerby

Irene Passerby, 85, Kingwood, formerly of Beckley, WV, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, at Mon General Medical Center, Morgantown, WV, following a brief illness.

Irene was born in Verdun, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Frank and Catherina (Cooban) Stevens. Upon leaving school, she worked for Northern Telecomm in Montreal until 1970, when she moved to the US with her husband and sons.

Irene and her family resided in several locations due to her husband’s golf profession, but they settled in Lewisburg, WV in the late seventies. She and her husband relocated to Beckley, WV in 1985. Irene moved to Kingwood, WV in January 2021. Besides being a devoted mother and homemaker, Irene occasionally worked in the retail and food service industries. Irene enjoyed reading, cooking, knitting, visiting with family and friends, and playing bingo. She treasured the friends she met and the fun times she had playing bingo at the Lester VFD, the Beckley Knights of Columbus Hall, the Beckley American Legion Post, and several other Beckley area bingos. Irene is survived by her son, Kevin (wife Joanna) of Kingwood, WV, five grandchildren (Micah, Andrew, Emily, Aisha, Adam), and one great-grandchild (Everleigh). Irene is also survived by her sister Grace Myatt of Brossard, Quebec, Canada, and her loving friends/neighbors/caregivers Bill and Sue Taylor of Beckley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Tony, in 2013 and her son, Mark, in 2019. Per her instructions, Irene has been cremated under the direction of Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel and Crematory, and no formal service is planned.
