James Wilford Uphold, Sr., 86, of Kingwood, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his residence, under Hospice Care. He was born August 6, 1938, in Kingwood, WV, a son of the late Elzy C. Uphold and Virginia B. (Shrout) Uphold.
Jim was a coal miner and machinist and worked at Meredith Tire. Jim was a “Jack of many trades,” and loved to teach others. He would often say, “Are you gonna let me finish, or do you want to talk?” He was a great storyteller, especially since he had done a lot of traveling. Stories were often told with humor and exaggeration. He was raised in the Baptist faith, and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a very outgoing person, and liked to make people laugh. If you needed help or something he was always there. He was married three times and was preceded in death by all 3 of his wives. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by: three children, Sherry K. Rohr, James W. Uphold, Jr., and Marion Angelina Uphold Rager, all of Kingwood; four grandchildren, Amanda D. Rohr, Servern, MD, Ronald E. Rager II, of Kingwood, Pantera M. Prichett, Kingwood, WV, Samantha B. Prichett, of Morgantown; and one great granddaughter; siblings, Ted “Fuzzy” Uphold, Albright, Ruby Uphold, OH, Jane Tibbs, OH, and Connie Uphold, of Tunnelton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by: one granddaughter, Haley K. Rohr; and four siblings, Jack Uphold, Sunny Uphold, Buck Uphold, and Bonnie Martin.
The Uphold family will receive friends on Friday, August 30th from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, on Saturday, August 31st, 2024. Revered Ray Frankhouser officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
