Jay Reed Shillito

Jay Reed Shillito, 93, of Kingwood, WV, passed on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at his residence. He was born December 10, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pa, son of the late James Reed Shillito and Ruth Martha Cotteryahn Shillito Kinny.

Jay served his country in the United States Army as Military Police during the Korean War.  He retired as a Nationwide Insurance Agent in Terra Alta for over 46 years. He was a member of the Terra Alta First Church, Terra Alta Masonic Lodge #106 A.F. and A.M., Terra Alta VFW Post #578, Elks Lodge No 2481, and Oakland Moose Lodge No 320. He enjoyed playing golf, and playing cards. He was an avid reader of Louis L”Amour and had over 100 books in his collection. Jay was a kind loving soul to everyone.   

Jay is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sylvia “Sue” Jean Albright  Shillito; six children, Jenee Shillito, Arkansas, Josie Shillito, Terra Alta, James "Jimmy" Reed Shillito (Shelley), Terra Alta, Jill O’Dell (Clark), Florida, Michael Todd Peddicord (Suzanne), Kingwood, Lewis Jay Peddicord (Lisa), Bruceton Mills; grandchildren, Matthew Shillito, Daniel Shillito, Moriah Pitzer (Jesse), Miranda Peddicord, Jason Peddicord (Lauren), Abby Brooks (Quincy), Brian Shaffer, Bethany Abraira (Dan), and Mallory Witherspoon (Chad); great grandchildren, Mila, Holden, Everly, Grady, Beckham, and Tinsley; one sister, Sondra Humphrey.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Shillito.

Kingwood Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation for the Shillito family. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in Terra Alta.
