Jean G. Malone, age 100, of Kingwood, formerly of Clarksville, PA, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Stonerise of Kingwood. She was born in Fayette County, PA, January 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Russell M. Ward and Ellen (Todd) Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard B. Malone on November 24, 1994.
When asked about the most amazing things she had seen in her lifetime Jean said, “a man on the moon, and seeing and talking to family all over the world via the computer”. She lived the first ninety years of her life in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Her father was a coal miner. Her first job was as a clerk in the company store. She met her future husband, Howard Malone, there. She went to Pittsburgh where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter”, a welder, building LST boats that were used in the landing of Normandy. After the war she went to California State University and then worked as a school teacher for 25 years in the Bethlehem Center School District in Pennsylvania, from which she retired. At the age of 90 she moved to Morgantown, WV, she later moved to Kingwood to live with her son Mark and his wife Sharon. She was an avid reader and worker of crossword puzzles. Her daily Bible study was always done. She was a member of the East Bethlehem Baptist Church in Deemston, PA. She was an avid sports fan, her favorite being WVU Football and basketball, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Jean really enjoyed sitting on the sun porch seeing the mountains and watching the birds and other wildlife. The advice she gave for a good life was to have fun, love your family and friends, and have a little chocolate every day.
Surviving are: two sons, Mark L. Malone and wife Sharon, of Kingwood, and Jonathan K. Malone and wife Karen, of Harrisonburg, Virginia; six grandchildren, Michael Malone and wife Christin, Melisa Malone, Matthew Malone and wife Patti, Sean Malone and companion Darla Eure, Shannon Malone Palmer husband Jason, and Kendall Malone Truman and husband Jason; nine great grandchildren, Avery, Kylie, Whitney Rose, and Madison Malone, Aidan Palmer, Katie Palmer, Benjamin, Jack, and Max Truman; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard B. Malone; one sister, Arlene Rhodes and her husband Samuel.
In honor of her wishes Mrs. Malone will be cremated. She will be laid to rest with her family at Little Redstone Cemetery, Fayette Co. PA.
