Joan DeWitt Obituary

Joan DeWitt (Hare), 91, of Kingwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Janet’s Heavenly Home in Tunnelton. The family would like to thank Janet, Chasity, Sharon, Mandy, Carrie, Amber and Ashley  for loving and caring for Joan in her final stage of life.

She was born on September 16, 1933, in Cumberland, MD, a daughter of the late James William Hare and Mary Katherine (Miller) Hare Weakley.

A devoted member of the Methodist faith, Joan attended the United Methodist Church. Joan worked as a registered nurse at Preston Memorial Hospital for many years before retiring to spend more time with her family.

Joan leaves behind her two sons, Robert DeWitt and wife, Kathy, of Bruceton Mills and William DeWitt and wife, Tracy, of Mineral Wells; one daughter, Lisa Hart and husband Louis; six grandchildren, Gabe, Katelyn, Zachary, Jacob, Tyler, and Joseph, and one great grandchild, Ellic.

Joan was a woman of many talents and a deep love for life’s simple pleasures.  She found joy in painting, reading, cooking, canning and celebrating holidays with her family.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert DeWitt, who passed away in 1992.

As per Joan’s wishes, there will be no funeral services, and Kingwood Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.  Her immediate family will be having a private celebration of life.
