John G. Haddix, age 88, of Independence, WV, died Thursday morning, June 15, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Born July 7, 1934, in Birds Creek, WV, he was the youngest son of the late Garfield Haddix and Eliza Ann (Rhoads) Teter-Haddix.
John was a skilled machinist and learned his trade at Grafton High School where he was a member of the class of 1952. He worked several years at Sterling Faucet in Reedsville, WV, and retired from Union Carbide in Anmoore, WV.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. John was actively involved with his church community at the Independence Baptist Church, Independence, WV. He had a passion for farming, working in his machine-wood shop, and playing hymns on his dobro with family and friends. One of his favorite places to perform was at Cool Springs, WV.
John was married on February 28, 1954, and is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years Twila (Miller) Haddix; along with three children; Debra and Tom Spadafore of Independence, WV, John A. Haddix and Betsy of Independence, WV, Jody and Craig Boyles of Grafton, WV; eight grandchildren, Gina (Jason) Croston, Andrea (Jeremy) Morris, T.J. Haddix, Jennifer (Rick) Glaspell, Carrie (Brian) Dantzler, Jack and (Audrey) Haddix, Kylie(Corey) Kingston, Alex (Brant) Hammer, Heather Robertson and Harlan (YuanRong Jia) Reid; 19 great-grandchildren, Jake, Thomas, Joey, and Cam Croston, Beau Morris, Harleigh, Hunter and Harper Haddix, Ian and Isaiah Glaspell, Kaylyn, White, J.J. and Delilah Haddix, Finn and Wes Kingston, Miles Hammer, Shane, Savanah, and Scarlett Robertson.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Ari Teter, Harry Teter, Oakey Teter, Frank Haddix, James Haddix, and Richard Haddix; five sisters, Greatha (Teter) McDaniel, Kathryn ((Teter) Sisler, Maude (Haddix) Hayes, Mabel (Haddix) Hayes, and Myrtal (Haddix) Sapp; and many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood on Sunday, June 18th from 4-8 pm, and Monday, June 19th from 10 am until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Monday, at the funeral home. Pastor Carl Trickett officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens,
