John Nelson Langshaw Jr., 82, of Terra Alta, WV, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Garrett Memorial Hospital. Born on December 17, 1942, in Smithfield, RI, he was the son of the late John Nelson Langshaw Sr. and Barbara (Rossi) Langshaw.
John was a proud graduate of North Providence High School in Rhode Island. After high school, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army and bravely serving in Vietnam. Following his military service, he built a career as an electrician, dedicating many years to the City of Providence, RI.
A man of deep faith and strong community ties, John was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Terra Alta, WV. He also took great pride in his involvement with AMVETS of Terra Alta and the Terra Alta VFW Post 578, where he served as Vice Commander. His passion for camaraderie and service extended beyond his military ties, shaping the many friendships he held dear.
John found great joy in the outdoors, whether bass fishing, surf casting by the shore, or simply enjoying the serenity of the beach. He also loved playing cards, tending to his garden, working in his yard, and tackling crossword puzzles—always keeping his mind sharp and his hands busy.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 24 years, Gloria Irene (Gallant) Langshaw; his three sons, John Langshaw III, Michael Langshaw, and Kevin Langshaw and wife Lois (Rego) Langshaw all of Rhode Island; four grandchildren, David, Jason, Lee, and Dakotah; and his sister, Barbara Langshaw-Bettez of RI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen McAuliffe.
John’s life was one of service, love, and devotion. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
