Keith Ashley Cannon, 78, of Oakland, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 17, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on September 30, 1946, in Crellin, MD, he was the son of the late Harold Gilbert and Leatrice Mildred (Lee) Cannon.
Keith was a proud 1965 graduate of Southern High School and went on to attend Garrett Community College. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, which shaped his deep sense of duty and commitment. After returning home, he dedicated many years to his work at Westvaco Papermill. Keith’s faith and love for his community were evident through his membership at Loch Lynn Church of God, where he was a devoted presence.
A man of the outdoors, Keith found peace and joy in hunting and fishing, often sharing these simple pleasures with those he loved. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Keith’s family was his heart, and he leaves behind his cherished wife of fifty-three years, Harriet Jean (Geroski) Cannon, with whom he shared a beautiful, lifelong partnership. He is also survived by his daughter, Beth Ann Bannister, and her husband Brian, of Winchester, VA; his beloved grandson, Jacob Cannon, and his wife Mia, of Oakland, MD; and his two brothers, Harold Cannon and his wife Peggy, of Oakland, MD, and Jerry Cannon and his wife Louise, of Grand Rapids, MI.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mark Cannon, and his stepfather Harry Yost.
A quiet man who lived a life full of love and service, Keith’s legacy is one of deep care for his family, country, and the land he loved. In keeping with his wishes, Keith will be cremated by Terra Alta Funeral Home and Crematory, 1112 W. State Ave., Terra Alta, WV. Keith will have a small memorial for close family and friends at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens in Oakland.
The Cannon family is deeply grateful for the love and support they’ve received, and Terra Alta Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to assist them during this time. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to:
