Lovel Travis Obituary

Lovel “Darrell” Travis, 61, of the Green Valley Community in Etam, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at his residence with his loving wife by his side. He was born on January 21, 1965, in Morgantown, WV, a son of the late Bernard Gale Travis, Sr. and Iris Alda Stull Travis.

Darrell was a 1983 graduate of Central Preston High School. He retired as a general foreman tree trimmer, having worked for many years with Asplundh Tree Expert and Hazlett Tree Service. Darrell was a faithful member of Green Valley United Methodist Church, where he shared his love of music by playing guitar and singing.

Darrell had a deep love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and treasured the many hours spent in the woods and along the water. Whether casting a line, sitting in a deer stand, or strumming his guitar, he found peace and joy in God’s creation. His love of nature and music were a reflection of his gentle spirit and appreciation for life’s simple blessings.

He is survived by his wife of 39½ years, Shirley Ann (Hershman) Travis; three daughters, Bridget Blizzard of Valley Point, Julia Fowler (George) of Valley Point, and Kimberly Zweyer (Levi) of South Carolina; special niece, Brenda Travis of Newburg; five grandchildren, Josh, Abby, Brittany, Gracelynn, and Jayden; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Elijah; three brothers, Bernard Travis, Jr. (Joyce), Allen “Pete” Travis (Bonnie), and Robert Travis (Roxanne), all of Tunnelton; one sister, Lydia Travis of Tunnelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Emily Fowler and Josh Valentine, Jr.; and three siblings, Patricia Taylor, Cora Kyle, and Brooke Travis.

Friends and family will be received at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Justin Jones and Pastor Marjorie Waybright officiating. Interment will follow at Flag Chapel Cemetery.
