Ludwik Bernatowicz Obituary

Ludwik Brian Bernatowicz, age 75, of Kingwood, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his family. He was born November 9, 1948, a son of the late Louis and Stella (Gerasimovich) Bernatowicz. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Ann (Forman) Bernatowicz.

Ludwik was a 1966 graduate of Kingwood High School. He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the US Army. After years working as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, he was later employed by Allegheny Power at the Albright Power Station.   He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons. Ludwik took great pride in building and for years operating the family horse farm outside of Kingwood. Ludwik was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by:  two sons, Brian Kyle Bernatowicz and wife Sarah, and Craig Garrett Bernatowicz and fiance’ Madison; two grandsons, Jaxon Bernatowicz and Logan Bernatowicz; all of Canal Winchester, OH; three sisters, Rose Ann Lenhart, Antoinette Bernatowicz, and Theresa Spear; two brothers, John Bernatowicz (Kay), and Patrick Bernatowicz (Loretta); two brothers in law, Bill Forman (Sharon), and Bob Forman (Linda); three sister in laws, Pauline Bernatowicz, Rosemary Bernatowicz and Elaine Bernatowicz and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by:  one sister, Marian Metea; and three brothers, Edward Bernatowicz, Francis Bernatowicz, and Joseph Bernatowicz.

Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, on Sunday, March 10th from 2-7 pm. A prayer vigil will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 7 pm. Following visitation beginning at 10 am, a mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 am, Monday, March 11, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 12 Church Drive, Kingwood, WV. Father Arthur Bufogle and Father Dominic Athishu as celebrants. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the honor details of the VFWs and Vietnam Veterans of Preston County and the US Army National Guard honor detail. 

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital and Sundale Nursing Home for their extraordinary care of Ludwik following his accident.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 322 East Main Street, Kingwood, WV.
