Mary Gail Bertram, 94, of Reedsville, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025. She was born on April 25, 1931, in Burnt Prairie, Illinois, a daughter of the late Alva Cross and Minnie Bell (Paschel) Cross.
Mary lived a long, full life centered around faith, family, and community. She worked as a greeter at Walmart in Texas for seven years, where she loved meeting people and sharing a smile with everyone who came through the doors. A woman of faith, she was a lifelong Methodist and attended Longview Methodist Church while living in Texas. She was also proud to be a lifetime member of the VFW Post 826 in Kingwood, WV, a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Kingwood, and a member of the New Heritage CEOS (Community Educational Outreach Service).
Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, and collecting cookbooks; but she especially loved watching westerns. No matter the day or the time, Mary had a western movie or show on the TV. But overall, nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her family. She was the heart of her home and treasured her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Gale (Earl) Kelly, of Reedsville; eight grandchildren, Kim Miller, Chad (Elizabeth) Miller, Matt (Scarlett) Miller, Jay (Queen) Kelly, Eric Kelly, Sean Kelly, Kiley Bolyard, and Josh (Holly) Bolyard; one sister, Joyce (Norman) Martin, of Crossville, IL; twenty great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Bertram; two daughters, Linda Miller and Ellen Bolyard-Butts; one granddaughter, Michelle Miller; one great-great-grandson, Earl Brady Kelly; four sisters, Alva Lee Hargrave, Betty Attebury, Joan Baker, and Vicki Pollock; and one brother, Jesse Cross.
Family and friends will be received at Kingwood Funeral Home on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 4–7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10–11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. officiated by Reverend Ray Frankhouser. Interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery.
