Mary Eleanor Guthrie, 78, of Tunnelton, WV, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Mary was born on August 19, 1946 in Terra Alta, daughter of the late Stanley Elwood Guthrie and Grace Virginia (Groves) Sheets.
Mary worked as a nurse’s aide at Hopemont State Hospital for 22 years and then as a greeter at Walmart in Kingwood. She loved listening to Johnny Cash, and watching westerns, especially “Gunsmoke”, “Bonanza”, “The Rifleman”, and anything with John Wayne. She enjoyed sitting on her porch and watching cars pass by, and waving to the kids on school busses.
Mary is survived by a son, Josh Rodeheaver, of Tunnelton; two sisters, June Unger, of Capon Bridge, Donna Roman, of Fairmont; one adopted sister, Brenda Buckingham; one aunt, Lucille Groves, of Baltimore; five nephews, Milford Sliger, Hedgesville, Larry Guthrie Jr., of Tampa, FL, Scott Guthrie, of Parkersburg, Teddy Ringer, of Terra Alta, Mark Ringer, of Reedsville; three nieces, Kathy Lipscomb, of Tunnelton, Cynthia Roby, of Fairmont, and Michelle Guthrie-Sifuenpes, of Austin, TX.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Ann Freeland, Carol Eileen Hall, Marilyn Jane Guthrie; three brothers, Larry Allen Guthrie, Ronald Guthrie, Donald Guthrie; three aunts, Margie Groves, Mabel Groves, Winnie Metheny; three uncles, Stanley Groves, Herbert Groves, Willard Groves; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may be received on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 10am until the 2pm funeral hour at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV 26537, with Pastors Rotha Hall and Delisa Riley officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Terra Alta.
