Maxine Belle (Shaffer) Fortney, 97, of Tunnelton, WV, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Pine Ridge.
She was born August 3, 1922, in Tunnelton, a daughter of the late Morris and Ida (McDaniel) Shaffer.
She was a 1941 graduate of Tunnelton High School, a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and the Fort Butler Post #826 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Maxine loved helping on the farm, going to the Tunnelton Senior Center and traveling with the seniors. She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Marjorie and Hank Seifert of Terra Alta, Carolyn and Donald Casseday of Reedsville; five grandchildren, Brandon Seifert, Michael Ridenour, Kimberly Ridenour, Scott Fortney and Chris Fortney; three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard Wilson Fortney; one son, Ronald Fortney; four brothers, Gus Shaffer, Francis Shaffer, John Shaffer, Marcy Shaffer; four sisters, Elizabeth Hahn, Ethel Holmes, Catherine Burke, and Marie Miller; one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street, with Pastor Tom Strahin officiating. Social distancing and masks are required.
