Melvin Nathaniel Pyles, 83, of Albright, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, surrounded by his family whom he cherished more than anything in this world.
Born on November 18, 1941, a son to the late Ella Virginia Pyles, Melvin was a man of simple joys and deep values. He spent many years working in the coal mine- his hands calloused and strong. He took pride in honest work.
Melvin was never happier than when he was outdoors, casting a line, or in the woods on a hunt; but most of all, his happy place was in a seat around a poker table. Whether playing for pennies or the title of his car, the real jackpot was the company with him at the table and being sure to use his favorite phrase, “Put ‘er in there!”
Above all, Melvin was a devoted family man. Married to love of his life, Linda, for a beautiful 61 years, together they built a life filled with love, laughter and unwavering support. He was a proud father and a loyal friend. His grandchildren will forever remember the warmth of his hugs, his kind knowing smile, and the wisdom in his words. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty and love. A life well-lived and deeply appreciated.
Melvin is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Linda Jane (Sigley) Pyles; three daughters, Carmella Cattlett (Jim), of Albright, Carla Seese (Shawn), of Bruceton Mills, and Chena Miller (Mike), of Albright; six grandchildren, Cassie Cattlett, Nathan Pyles (Nikki), Nathea Pyles, Zack Seese (Sommer), Brittany Miller, and Michael Miller (Chelcee); eleven great-grandchildren, Haleigh Shahan, Averlee Baker, Baby Pyles on the way, Brynleigh Seese, Nolan Seese, Charlotte Seese, Ryder Price, Kane Parker, Wesley Miller, Laney Miller, and Hadley Miller; one nephew, Ben Menear; two sisters-in-law, Karen Flynn (William), Shirley Colebank; and close family friend, Eugene Keplinger.
In addition to his mother, Melvin is preceded in death by his grandmother, Rose Pyles; his sister, Wendy Menear (Jack); his brother, Timothy Martin (Linda); and brother in law, June Colebank.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Melvin’s memory by gathering with your loved ones to share stories, laughs, and to play a hand of poker in his memory; because if he were here, he’d grin and say, “Put ‘er in there!” Per his wishes, cremation services will be accorded by Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kingwoodfuneralhomewv.com. Kingwood Funeral Home is honored to serve the Pyles family.
