Melvin Claude Snyder III

Melvin Claude Snyder III passed away at the age of 68 on January 19th, 2025 at his home in Kingwood, WV with his wife of 44 years, Maryellen Snyder, by his side.

He was born January 12th, 1957 in Fort Benning, GA to the late Melvin Claude Snyder Jr. and the late Mary Joan Griffith Snyder. He was a 1975 graduate of Kingwood High School, a 1979 graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in chemical engineering, and a 1988 graduate of the University of Houston law school. He worked for over 20 years as the Prosecuting Attorney in Preston County, WV.

Mel is survived by his children Alexandra Snyder, Julia Snyder, and Nicholas Snyder and spouse Kassidy Thompson. As well as a new baby grandson, Cooper Snyder, whom Mel met for the first time at Christmas. He is also survived by his step-mother Ann Snyder and his siblings Gigi Norcross Willems and her spouse Bob Willems and Geoff Norcross and his spouse Kristy Bryner. As well as many other family and friends who loved him. His dear brother John Snyder preceded him in death last year.

Family and community were the two most important things to Mel. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and any other activities he could do while spending time with family members. He was a member of many community organizations over the years such as the Kingwood Rotary Club and the Catholic Church of Preston County.  Mel will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are warmly invited to join us at Kingwood Funeral Home, located at 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM for a time of remembrance, with Rosary at 3:00 PM. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held the following day, Monday, January 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Sebastian Catholic Church officiated by MSGR. Samuel Sacus.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mel’s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Catholic Churches: Preston County.
