Nona Gertrude Sheets, 96, of Tunnelton, died Friday, November 1, 2024, at Nella's at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Elkins. She was born August 3, 1928, in Tunnelton, a daughter of the late Arless Ross and Gertrude Jane Knotts Bolyard.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a hard worker and worked at many locations in Kingwood. Just a few: Preston Memorial Hospital, Mamie’s Motel and Restaurant, Pizza Keg, and Mary’s Restaurant. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center in Tunnelton and taking trips with them. She was a spunky woman and enjoyed watching WWE wrestling. She enjoyed live music and never wanted to leave until the final band was finished; if she had a ride, she would make almost every show at the Sagebrush Round-Up in Fairmont. She loved to visit the sick and to visit those who had passed on at the cemetery. She was known as the candy lady to many because she always had a pocket full of cinnamon candy and shared it with all. She enjoyed watching westerns.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Simpson of Fairmont, Brenda Bolyard and husband Paul, and a son, Michael Sheets and wife Lori, all of Tunnelton; seven grandchildren, Tammy Bennett, Tina Savage, Pamela Johnson, Robert, Jonthan, Jason, and Justin Bolyard; fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; three great-great-grandchildren and two on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Sheets, in 2003; six brothers, Jehu, Carold, Dewey, Donald, Harvey, and Junior Bolyard; and three sisters, Nellie Bolyard, Connie Conn, and Delores Phillips; a son-in-law, Harry Simpson; and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday, Nov. 8 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Robert Bolyard officiating. Interment will follow in the Camp Ground Cemetery.
