Peter Paul Gallina's life journey began on March 9, 1936 and ended on June 25, 2019.
He was born in Kingwood, WV to Americo and Teresa "Sperandio" Gallina.
He had one brother, Gabriel (deceased) and one sister, Teresa (Toddy). Pete graduated from Kingwood High School in 1953. He received his Associate degree from Potomac State and his Bachelor and Master degrees from West Virginia University. Pete also completed advanced graduate programs at Sacramento State and the University of Pittsburgh. In 1958, Pete married Sylvia "Liston" Gallina and they had two sons, Louis (1959) and Andrew (1965). Pete was always so proud of both of his son's many professional and personal accomplishments. Louis is married to Jan "Kitabayashi" Gallina. Andrew (deceased) was married to Mary "Venker" Gallina and together they gave Pete two very special grandsons, Oliver and Harrison. Pete was a true Prestonian, never forgetting where he came from. He valued long-lasting friendships, and never strayed too far from home. Pete held several positions with the West Virginia Welfare Department as a Social Worker, County Director, District Administrator, and Assistant Welfare Commissioner. He also worked for the WVU Regional Medical Program and the Department of Natural Resources where he wrote community grants for installing waste water treatment facilities. In the last days and hours of Pete's life journey, Sylvia and Louis were at his bedside.
Pete received care at the Brandley Hospice House in Summerfield, FL where the staff made his final days pain-free and full of dignity.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home in Kingwood from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, July 26, 2019. A Memorial Mass will be held at the St. Sebastian Church in Kingwood, WV at 11 a.m. on July 27, 2019.
