Phyllis Ann (Matlick) Herndon

Phyllis Ann (Matlick) Herndon, age 87, of Tunnelton, WV, Denver community, passed away, Saturday, September 23, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Jersey, April 19. 1936, a daughter of the late Forrest and Virgie (Wolfe) Matlick. Her husband, John Wesley Herndon, preceded her in death January 3, 2023. They were united in marriage July 21, 1957.

Phyllis was a 1954 graduate of Tunnelton High School. She was a member of the Denver United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and reading and crocheting.

She is survived by:  one son, Mark D. Herndon and wife Frances “Butch”; one daughter, Renee M. Wolfe, and husband Larry, all of Tunnelton; three grandchildren, Melissa Dawn Herndon, of Tunnelton, Matthew Dillon Herndon and Makayla Kelly, of Kingwood, and Tressa Ann Wolfe, of Morgantown; one great grandson, Liam Wesley Herndon; five siblings, Jerry and wife Russie, of Tunnelton, Fran Harris, of Albright, Barb Miller and husband Bill, of Shinnston; Roy Matlick and wife Judy, of Shepherdstown, WV; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Matlick.

Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood on Tuesday, September 26th from 3-7 pm, and Wednesday, September 27th from 11 am until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm, Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, at the funeral home with Chaplin Sonny McNear officiating. Interment at Shay’s Chapel Cemetery.

A dinner will follow at the West End Church, Raccoon Valley Road, Tunnelton.
