Retired Master Sergeant Larry “Carl” Funk, 86, of Kingwood, WV, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his home. He was born on October 22, 1939 in Preston County, son of the late Johnny “Ted” and Ova (Cline) Funk.
Carl proudly served in the US Air Force for twenty-five years, with two tours in Vietnam. Carl lived in many different areas throughout the world, and he loved to travel during his retirement. He loved God above all else, as an honorable Christian man, with a heart to serve. Carl would always say “I love God and my Country and I love our kids.”
Carl was community minded. He started the Kingwood area neighborhood watch program, volunteered many hours at Preston Memorial Hospital and the Kingwood Public Library, along with other community activities. Carl was a faithful member of the Higher Ground Apostolic Church in Fellowsville.
Carl will be remembered for his faithful friendships, dedication to God and his Country, service to his community, and his love of his family.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Shirley Pauline (Donovan) Funk; children, Michael Funk, of Seattle, WA, Pamela Jones (James), of Glenville, WV, Belinda Sharp, Mandy Sisler (Mitchell), both of Kingwood; grandchildren, Elly Lay, Grayson Jones, Gary Creamer (Missy), Brittany Creamer, Keely McCrobie, Dale Johnson, Zavier Travis; several great grandchildren; siblings, Joann Edwards, Victoria Linten; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Marshall Barlow.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson; sisters, Jeann Hahn, Judy Casteel, Waneda Kennedy; and two nieces.
Family and friends will be received at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 3pm to 6pm, and on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 11am until the 12pm funeral hour, with Pastor Gaylon Shafer officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery, with full military honors.
