Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Shirley Cramer-Loss, 86, of Kingwood, WV, departed this life on December 14, 2023, to be united with her Heavenly father, and to be reunited with her first husband of 33 years, John C. Cramer. Her earthly father and mother, Homer B. Plum and Ottie (Wiles) Plum, her sister Lillian Plum, and her loving grandmother Myrtle Wiles.
She was born on December 13, 1937, in Tunnelton, WV. In 1956, she graduated from Tunnelton High School and the same year she entered Monongalia General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating on August 1959.
She spent her entire nursing career working in Preston County. In 1959, she began her employment with Drs. DelRoy Davis MD and John Lehman MD, with whom she worked for many years. Later, she became a public health nurse in Preston County. She particularly liked school nursing, which at that time was a part of public health.
In 1992, after the death of her beloved husband John, she began working at Heartland of Preston County and retired in 1997. She continued to work part time after she retired. After her retirement, God called her to be a parish nurse at her church, Wesley United Methodist. Her wonderful friend, mentor and pastor, Paul Mateer, introduced her to parish nursing. She became the first parish nurse at Wesley. She began a ministry for the elderly and shut ins, health education, and began a grief support group for the community. She served on the administrative board, council of ministries, and many committees of the church. She never lost her zeal for life and truly loved her family and her church. Shirley was a loving mother to her three boys.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ronald Loss, of Kingwood; three loving sons, Jay Carl Cramer and wife Debbie, of Kingwood, Charles “Chuck” Cramer and wife Lisa, of North Carolina, Rudy C. Kochel and wife Wanda, of Cheat Lake; six grandchildren, Haden Cramer, Garrett Cramer, Jenna Cramer, Alexis Leechford, Jamie Cramer, Taylor Cramer; one great grandchild, Lakelyn Cramer; a brother, Randy B. Plum and wife Debbie, of Kingwood; a sister, S. Dee Dlugos and husband Steve, of Baltimore; four nieces, Megan Fields and husband Josh, Katie Plum, Jillian Dlugos, and Jan Miller and husband William.
Friends may call at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV 26537 on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 3-6pm and on Monday from 10-11am until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Monday, December 18, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Harriman and pastor Paul Mateer officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
