Sylvester "Joe" Costilow Obituary

Sylvester Costilow, 78, of Kingwood, West Virginia, passed away on December 21, 2024. He was born on October 15, 1946, the son of the late John Sylvester Costilow Jr. and Lores Eugene Snyder.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Sue Reed, of Grafton, WV.

Sylvester dedicated many years of hard work as a coal miner, contributing to the local community while employed by T&T Mining in Preston County. He was known for his strong work ethic, but also for his joyful spirit and love of life. In his free time, Sylvester could often be found attending events at his local VFW, where he cherished the camaraderie of friends and veterans. He also found comfort in spending time with his beloved family and enjoyed listening to the timeless music of Elvis Presley, which always brought him joy.

Sylvester leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his four children: Dennis Ray Wagster of Lawton, OK, Tina Marie Wagster of Lawton, OK, Billie Joe Costilow of Parkersburg, WV, and Elizabeth Buvalla and her husband, Dave, of Parkersburg, WV. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: David Wilhelm of Kingwood, Lisa Wilhelm of Parkersburg, and Michael Costilow of Parkersburg. Sylvester’s family also includes seven great-grandchildren: David, Bryson, Adian, Elijah, Serenity, Dayvanie, and Solomon; and his sister, Diana Cage of Neenah, WI.

Sylvester will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering love for those close to him will never be forgotten.
