Thelma Jean (Christopher) Garbart

Thelma Jean (Christopher) Garbart, 86, of Kingwood, WV, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025.  Thelma was born in Valley Point, WV, on May 28, 1938, a daughter to the late Gilbert Christopher and Virginia (Matheny) Christopher.

Thelma is survived by her two children, Christopher David Garbart and his wife Susan, of Masontown, and Julie Ann Feather and her husband William, of Albright; one sister, Patty Bauer of Warren, Ohio; five grandchildren, Matthew Feather and wife Casey, Alyssa Feather, Lyndsey Garbart and her husband Spencer Lively, Mary Katherine Garbart, and James Garbart; and six great-grandchildren, Addyson Dawn Fearer, Donald Jase Fearer, Shaylyn Hope, Kadance Nicole, William Wyatt Feather, and Lowen Elizabeth Lively.

Thelma dedicated many years of service as a cook for Preston County Schools, where she was known for her warm spirit and generous heart. A faithful member of the Southern Baptist Church in Kingwood, WV, Thelma found joy in her faith and community. She had a passion for cooking and a love of flower gardening, often sharing the fruits of both with those around her. As a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she exemplified the values of charity and fellowship. Above all, Thelma cherished her family — her greatest joy came from caring for her loved ones and spending meaningful time together.

In addition to her parents, Thelma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Garbart; one sister, Linda Mayne; four brothers-in-law, Hubert Bauer, Carlus Mayne, Robert L. Garbart and Lloyd Bolinger; and nephew, Will Garbart.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM where the Order of the Eastern  Star Chapter 127 service will be held at 7 pm.  Additional visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Pastor Charles Warger, with interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
