Violet Mae Holyfield, 85, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Summa Hospital in Akron, OH, with her daughter by her side.
Violet was born August 12, 1934, at home in Preston County, WV. She is the daughter of the late Delbert Wayne and Jessie C. (Sigley) Funk.
She retired from Akron Public School System in the lunch program. She loved serving lunch to teens in Ellet High School. The students would still come up and talk to her after she retired. Some even called her grandma. She deeply loved her family and friends. Violet was a faithful member of the Community Baptist Church in Akron, OH for 57 years.
She is survived by sister Doris Bell; two daughters, Bobbie Holyfield, Shirley Davis and husband Lonnie Davis; two grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Anita Rhoades and fiancé Eddie Smyers. one great granddaughter, Tiffany Laskos and husband Dave Laskos; two great grandsons, Brandon and Justin Rhoades; two great-great-granddaughters, Gabbrielle and Mei'ling Laskos; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert Holyfield; her daughter, Kathy Ilg; two brothers, Howard and Lester Funk; four sisters Leta Jo Funk Gertrude Goff, Opal Wolfe and Dortha Simpson; many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street, on Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 6-8 p.m.; on Monday, September 30, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Bloom officiating. Interment will follow at Flag Chapel Cemetery in Etam.
