William “Bill” White Hyre, 99, of Belmont, West Virginia, peacefully gained his heavenly wings on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at The Heritage Assisted Living in St. Marys, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 16, 1926, in Albright, WV, Bill was the son of the late William Lorin and Maude Irene White Hyre. A proud 1944 graduate of Masontown High School, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II—a testament to the courage and dedication that would define his life.
On June 3, 1950, Bill married the love of his life, Wilma Eileen (Wotring) Hyre, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and devotion. Together, they created a family that became his greatest pride and joy.
Bill dedicated 40 years of hard work to Allegheny Power, retiring as a Supervisor at the Pleasants Power Station. He began his career at the Albright Power Station in Preston County then transferred in 1978 to Pleasants Power Station. His strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment left a lasting impact on all who worked beside him.
A man of deep faith and service, Bill was a devoted member of Belmont Baptist Church. His life was a reflection of giving—whether through his time, his talents, or his compassion for others. He served his communities faithfully as a past member and trustee of the Kingwood Fire Department, a founding member of KAMP Ambulance in Kingwood, a Scout Leader in both Kingwood and St. Marys, and past president of the St. Marys Senior Nutrition Center. He was also a proud member of the Kingwood American Legion, St. Marys Lodge #41 AF & AM, and the Rowlesburg Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron.
Bill was known for his outgoing nature, his unwavering love for his family, and his servant’s heart. He never hesitated to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or step forward when help was needed. His life was truly one of service, guided by faith, humility, and a genuine love for others. A man greatly effected by a broken immediate family during the great depression of the 1930’s. He was raised in faith and hard work by his very special Aunt Agnes and Uncle Preston Davis, a time when family took care of family.
He leaves behind a legacy carried on by his loving children: Bradford (Les) Hyre of Syracuse, NY; Brenda (Michael) Sarver of Little Hocking, OH; Nancy Carpenter of St. Marys, WV; and William A. (Sara) Hyre of Belmont, WV. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Megan Sarver and fiancé Fred Lamp III, Elissa Hyre, Shane (Shalini) Hyre, Amber (Jeremy) Mayfield, Emily Carpenter, Benjamin (Kelsey) Hyre, and Heather (Kade) Vanmol; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Erin Sarver, Lilly Walters, Alivia Crooks, Roman and Opal Mayfield, Adalynn and Luke Hyre, and Amos and Ellie Vanmol, Ashwin Thomas, and Several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wilma, on September 14, 2021—a reunion he surely longed for. Also, preceding him in death is his sister, Gwendolyn (William) Feather, and son-in-law Philip Carpenter, Agnes (Preston) Davis.
